Unwritten goals are nothing but dreams. Dreams without action steps are just fantasies. Anything worth having requires hard work and it doesn’t come easy. A common reoccurring theme in my life, which I have learned to embrace, is pain, struggle and victory. “Aim for the moon, for even if you miss you will land amongst the stars.”

From very young my parents instilled in me the spirit of excellence and hard work. I was encouraged to seek greatness in everything and to never do a halfassed job. If I was a janitor I should aspire to be the greatest janitor to ever live and never allow myself to be stagnant or become mediocre. Excellence is no accident; it is the result of the constant pursuit to be better. To be excellent is something is to strive to be better each and every day.

I graduated high school at Pine Forge Academy, a boarding school an hour outside of Philadelphia, PA. I was unsure of what was next but decided to apply to Howard University and was rejected. I made a decision to not attend college right away and take a year to decide what I would go into.

During my year, I performed various jobs, from property management to retail. While acting in a church play, an actor friend spotted me and congratulated me on my performance. He put me in touch with his agent and I was booked as an extra on Shameless. When I stepped on set, hearing the “lights, camera, action”, it lit a spark in my soul. This is what I am supposed to do for the rest of my life. Every part of it I wanted to study and learn. The acting, directing, cinematography, producing, I wanted to learn it all.

During my freshman year at Morehouse College, I befriended a group of creatives. We hit a point where I felt as though we were stagnant with our art so I began to think of ways to develop art during our matriculation. I decided to start a talk show where we could interview students currently pursuing their passions to help inspire those that come after us. This fueled my creative juices; I started studying the best interview style shows and figured out a way to make it special. I invested money buying 2 cameras, microphones, and lighting equipment.
Summer of  2018, while interning in New York City, I learned the meaning of hard work. My internship wasn’t paid so in order to pay my rent, and eat I decided to take pictures for people in time square, through this hustle I met music artists, actors, performers, and executive producers that inspired me and were inspired by my story so much that various people offered to mentor me and contribute to helping me achieve my goals.

My story is still going and everyday more opportunity presents it self and I will continue to chase my dreams and pursue my passion because God put these urges and dreams in me. I am a witness that if you trust God, work hard, and continually grow doors will open. Trust in Him and lean not on your own understanding and He will move the mountains in your life just like He’s doing for me.
